Bicycle Culture Center / Electric Power-Assist System (PAS)
Bicycles, first produced some 190 years ago, have developed to become the most basic form of conveyance of everyday life. On display in Bicycle Plaza at the Bicycle Culture Center are bicycles that give a visual picture of the history of the bicycle.

In 1993, Yamaha developed an electric bicycle it called a PAS (Power Assist System). The first model had poor battery performance and wasn't able to go up even a slight incline. Current models have smaller batteries, a leaner structure, and better performance. The bicycle features a power system that is only meant to assist the rider-in other words, the rider must pedal the bicycle in order for the system to provide adequate power.
