Bicycle Culture Center / Front Carriers Bicycle ""Nitori

Bicycles, first produced some 190 years ago, have developed to become the most basic form of conveyance of everyday life. On display in Bicycle Plaza at the Bicycle Culture Center are bicycles that give a visual picture of the history of the bicycle. (For more information, see the January 2009 issue of the PR magazine pla-topia.) http://cycle-info.bpaj.or.jp/bcc-info/bcc_hiroba.html

Until motorized vehicles were popularized, special bicycles were used to carry things-some had a cart that was attached to the rear of the bicycle.
At the beginning of the Taisho period (1912-1926), there were more than 1 million such bicycles. This number grew to 3.7 million by the end of the Taisho period. In the early Showa period (1926-1989), the bicycle industry (including bicycle components) had grown into a major industry that accounted for the largest share of exported machines.
