7. Mold design

7.3 Draft angle

Since TOPAS® COC is small in mold shrinkage and excellent in transferability, small irregularities, which do not become a problem for other resins, will be transferred, due to which mold release problems may occur. From the point of mold releasability, as large a draft angle as possible in the allowable range should be provided.

  • 1/2° to 1° at least; 2° if possible

For improving mold release, due care should be exercised regarding knockout systems, positions of ejector pins, their quantity, etc.
