8. Safety Precautions

There is no danger in molding LAPEROS® LCP so long as the general safety rules of molding operation are observed. However, like other plastics, LAPEROS generates decomposed substances when heated to very high temperatures. If ventilation is inadequate, such decomposed substances build up and may cause hazardous health conditions. Therefore, suitable ventilation is highly recommended..

Do not raise the resin temperature over 350°C for LAPEROS A, B, C and D grades, 370°C for Ei grade, and 385°C for GA/HA, T and S grades in order to prevent thermal decomposition, gas emission and pressure build up in the cylinder. These temperatures are much higher than molding conditions, and it is normally unnecessary to heat material to such temperatures. When molding is interrupted for a short time, it is possible to leave the material at the molding temperature. But when restarting, such a material must be thoroughly purged. When molding is interrupted for longer than 30 minutes, lower the temperature approximately 50°C below molding temperature.

Before feeding pellets or starting the screw, allow sufficient time for cylinder heating and wait until the temperature reaches the point 10°C below the molding temperature of each grade. Operators must wear protective goggles (especially when purging). Wear gloves when handling hot molds. When the machine is stopped, withdraw the injection unit to keep away from the mold in order to prevent solidification of material in the nozzle section.
