The DPF51 microprinter for electronic calculators developed by Alps Electric was introduced in a 1985 edition of DURACON News (85-7), the predecessor to our company's Platopia information magazine. Using a direct current motor and sensors, and character selection system and printing system were connected by a spring clutch and a claw clutch in what was a revolutionary system at the time. There were about 30 parts in all, and all of the driving gears were made from our company's DURACON® POM resin. DURACON-based clutches played an active part in selection of characters, printing and paper feed. The microprinter utilized DURACON's properties to the fullest, namely mechanical strength, friction and wear properties, fatigue strength, creep resistance, grease resistance, dimensional stability, and processability.
