Electronic desktop calculators emerged in the 1960s. The Anita Mark 8 that debuted in 1962 is believed to be the world's first. Subsequently, electronic calculators employing exclusively semiconductors devices were released on the market one after the other by Japanese manufacturers. The SOBAX debuted by Sony in 1967 weighed 6.5 kg and came equipped with a handle so that it could be carried.
