Museum of Science, Tokyo University of Science / Japanese abacus 2

The Museum of Science, Tokyo University of Science was established in 1991. The building is a reconstruction of the original wooden building constructed in 1906 that housed the Tokyo College of Science. The permanent exhibit presents the history of computing devices including abacuses, calculators, and computers. Various Japanese abacuses from the Edo era are on display, including a portable Japanese paper abacus for buying forests that was used by adventurers, a super-long Japanese abacus with an extremely large number of figures, a roll-up Japanese abacus, and a Japanese pearl abacus for gift.
