Sony Archives / Market development by oneself

The Sony Archives communicates the spirit of the Sony Corporation, founded over 60 years ago as the Tokyo Telecommunications Engineering Corporation, and serves as a venue where visitors can learn about the history of the company by viewing how the company products have changed over time. (For more information, see the January 2011 issue of the PR magazine pla-topia.) http://www.sony.co.jp/SonyInfo/CorporateInfo/History/Museum/

The tape recorder included a detailed instruction manual written by a young Akio Morita who was to become Sony's Chairman. When sales of the Model G commenced, despite the view being, "We have developed an incredible product from scratch. Surely it will sell well," it did not sell at all. Thinking of the reason why, the conclusion was that, "Because they don't know its value, if we don't let the world know more about this value, we will have no means of selling it." Here, the need for them to personally develop the market, in other words market development, was strongly felt and Morita decided to write an instruction manual.
