Sony Archives / 1955

The Sony Archives communicates the spirit of the Sony Corporation, founded over 60 years ago as the Tokyo Telecommunications Engineering Corporation, and serves as a venue where visitors can learn about the history of the company by viewing how the company products have changed over time. 1955 Towards one radio per person
Towards one radio per person
Based on transistor technology that the company has taken up as a new challenge, Sony engaged in the development and manufacture of a compact radio and in 1955, the TR-55 debuted on the market. Until then it was common to have one radio per household but this then shifted dramatically towards "one radio per person" and this effort to reduce size became a legend of Sony.
