Advancing into the digital watch field

The year 1974 saw a switch from mechanical watches to watches with quartz movements. At a time when most people thought of the watch as being made of metal, Casio moved into the field of watches. The digital watch was a simple adder that added together each pulse (marking 1 second) of a quartz crystal oscillator. Casio's move into watch manufacturing was natural because it took full advantage of the LSI technology the company had developed for the calculator.
