From relays to transistors

In the 8-year period from 1957 to 1965, about 100,000 Casio relay calculators were sold. However, the company was late in entering the field of transistor calculators. At the product launch in 1965 for the 81, the fastest relay calculator at the time, the comment was made that "the age of relay calculators is over." The 001, a transistor calculator developed by Casio's young engineers, was also presented at the product launch. The 001 marked a turning point as Casio switched to production of transistor calculators.
