For over 40 years since 1974, a meeting has been regularly conducted at the Fuji Plant for people living in the neighboring area to exchange ideas and opinions in regard to environmental matters. Every year, neighborhood representatives (environmental monitors) are invited to the Fuji Plant to participate in the Environmental Monitoring Meeting held during Environment Month in June. At the meeting the RC (Responsible Care) activities undertaken by the company are presented, the representatives are taken on an inspection tour of the plant and its environmentally friendly equipment and facilities, and a session is held for company representatives to hear the ideas and opinions expressed by the environmental monitors. The six pillars of RC are disaster prevention, occupational safety and health, environmental protection, communication, chemical and product safety, and logistics safety. The Fuji Plant received the RC Award this year in recognition of outstanding performance particularly in regard to activities to promote communication with neighborhood residents that have been carried out for many years.

Responsible Care is the name for voluntary initiatives undertaken by companies in the chemical industry with the primary objective of protecting the environment and ensuring health and safety throughout the entire process of development, manufacture, physical distribution, use, final consumption, disposal and recycling of chemical substances, and also to disclose these activities to the general public and promote communication with the public by conducting activities that provide opportunities for dialog with companies.
