Q1

I have a question about the grease resistance of M90-44. Do you have any data on XYZ grease manufactured by ABC Corporation? In addition, I would like to know if any problems arise with use.

A1

The fact that superior resistance is exerted against various chemicals can be given as one of the features of our DURACON. Above all, superior grease resistance is exerted even after processing at high temperatures for a long time. Data on XYZ grease for DURACON M90-44 you inquired about cannot be provided, however, data on XYZ grease of another grade is introduced for your reference.

* DURACON AW-01 (Sliding grade) … XYZ grease manufactured by ABC Corporation
Physical properties of an ISO tensile test piece of DURACON with grease applied

on the surface after being left in an environment of 80 ° C for 30 days.
Retention rate of tensile strength: 101%,   Change in thickness: 0.00%

Change in width: 0.00%,   Change in length-0.16%,   Change in weight-0.22%

As described above, superior resistance is exerted with a retention rate of 100% or more even after being at high temperatures for a long time, and it can be considered that a similar resistance is exerted for M90-44. However, a number of greases containing various additives exist. We recommend use after sufficient investigation because such additives can affect (reduction in mechanical properties) DURACON depending on the types of additives and conditions.

Q2 Parts requiring insulation against high voltage are considered. Since we have operating experience with other parts, we have considered using DURAFIDE 1140A6, however, the dielectric strength of this grade is 16kV/mm (in thickness of 3mm) according to the catalogue. Now, I have a question. In terms of calculations, the dielectric breakdown strength is simply 48kV if the thickness is 3mm in the catalogue.
A2

Dielectric breakdown strength is a value by dividing the voltage at which dielectric breakdown occurs by the thickness of a test piece, and is indicated by a voltage per unit thickness. Accordingly, as you consider, if the dielectric breakdown strength of 16kV/mm is exerted at a thickness of 3mm, a voltage at which dielectric breakdown occurs is 48kV.
A point that you should pay attention here is that dielectric breakdown strength also changes if it is measured at different thicknesses even with the same material.
The smaller the thickness is, the larger the dielectric breakdown strength converted by unit thickness tends to be.
The following shows data of DURAFIDE 1130A6, our resin material.

As such tendencies are shown, we recommend measuring the above properties at the same thickness when comparing catalogue values.

Q3 Parts of DURACON into which a SUS rail is inserted is designed. The parts have an extremely thin portion, therefore please advise on whether molding is possible. If dimensions of the parts are approximately 30mm in length and 2mm in width, what degree of thickness is possible? M450-44 is assumed, however, can you offer any recommended grades?
A3

From the viewpoint of flowability, thickness necessary for allowing for a flow of 30mm is 0.3mm or more for M450-44, and 0.4mm or more for M270-44, and 0.5mm or more for M90-44. Refer to the following URL for your reference.

On the other hand, as the actual design is not well known based on the face of your inquiry mail, determination cannot be made, however, in consideration of the insert mold product, creep failure may be problematic in terms of design. Grades (M25-44) having a large molecular weight are of an advantage in relation to creep failure. In addition, the greater the thickness is, the greater the strength in creep failure. Accordingly, if the parts have a design with no creep failure, a thickness of 0.3mm or more is possible for M450-44, and if the parts have a design where creep failure may be problematic, it is considered that M25-44 or M90-44 are effective.

Q4 How should we obtain or purchase DURACON at the local site, in order to start production in a factory in China? In addition, send us M90-44 catalogues. We prefer catalogues in Japanese and Chinese including molding conditions.
A4

It is possible to use DURACON in China. Sales bases are posted on the following URL, please make an inquiry at the nearest office.https://www.polyplastics.com/en/company/gp/index.html
Next, for catalogues, please access the following URL posting physical properties catalogues.
Downloading is possible in PDF format.
