Health Monitoring Devices and Plastic

The first TANITA bathroom scales functioned by applying the principle of leverage, and weighed about 3.5 kilograms. Today, the units have been reduced in weight by putting plastic to effective use, while the displays themselves have gone digital. Sensors at all four corners convert load into electric signals, with the combined value displayed digitally. To give scales greater strength, checkered pattern rib structures are adopted on the backside. The most common plastic used is ABS resin, with other varieties in use including AS resin for clear parts, PBT resin for mechanical components and more.
