Thermoplastic resins
Resin name Characteristics
Polyvinyl chloride resin (PVC) Soft products can be produced by the addition of a plasticizer. Chemical resistance, good electrical insulating properties (Low heat resistance. Gives off hydrogen chloride when heated)
High-density polyethylene(PE) Colorless and transparent; electrical insulating properties, good chemical resistance (Low solvent resistance, brittleness, low softening point)
Low-density polyethylene (PE) Crystalline resin, light weight, flexibility, electrical insulating properties, chemical resistance, water resistance, good heat-sealing characteristics (Poor printability and adhesive properties)
Polystyrene (PS) Good workability, electrical characteristics, water resistance; odorless and nontoxic
AS resin (AS) Transparent; high strength; higher heat resistance, weather resistance, and oil resistance than polystyrene (Slightly lower formability than polystyrene)
ABS resin (ABS) High toughness, high gloss, chemical resistance, high oil resistance
Methacrylic resin (PMMA) Colorless and transparent; weather resistance, good optical properties
Polypropylene (PP) More transparent, more resistant to repeated bending, and has a higher softening point than polyethylene (Poor printability and adhesive properties)
Polyamide (PA) Crystalline resin, high toughness, oil resistance, abrasion resistance, good gas barrier properties (High moisture absorption)
Polyacetal (POM) Crystalline resin; similar in properties to polyamide; high toughness, creep resistance, heat resistance, high solvent resistance
Polycarbonate (PC) High toughness, electrical properties, heat resistance, excellent weather resistance; transparent
Denatured polyphenylene ether (PPE) High toughness, heat resistance, creep resistance, high steam resistance
Polybutylene terephthalate (PBT) Crystalline resin; heat resistance, electrical insulating properties, gas barrier properties, good chemical resistance
Polysulfone (PSF) High toughness, heat resistance, creep resistance, chemical resistance
Polyphenylene sulfide (PPS) Heat resistance, flame retardance, chemical resistance, electrical insulating properties
Liquid crystal polymer (LCP) High strength, high modulus of elasticity, thin-wall flowability, vibration characteristics, heat resistance, flame retardance
Thermosetting resins
Resin name Characteristics
Phenolic resin (PF) Electrical insulating properties, strength, heat resistance, good durability (Dark, susceptible to alkali)
Urea resin (UF) Colorless and can be colored freely, similar to other phenolic resins, inexpensive (Inferior in heat resistance)
Melamine resin (MF) Similar to urea resins, but has high hardness and good water resistance
Unsaturated polyester (UP) Lends itself to low-pressure molding, becomes tough when reinforced by glass fiber
Epoxy resin (EP) Have good adhesion to metals and minerals; electrical insulating properties, high chemical resistance
Silicon (Si) Electrical insulating properties, heat resistance, good water repellency; there are liquid, rubbery, and resinous types (Expensive)
