The Sewing Machine Presented to Shogun Iesada Tokugawa

A sewing machine originally developed by the Wheeler & Wilson Company, which evolved into the prototype for the lockstitch models used today. This is the same model as the unit presented to Shogun (Generalissimo) Iesada Tokugawa by Commodore Mathew Perry of America in 1854, when Perry's fleet revisited Japanese waters, and was reportedly used by Iesada's wife Atsuhime.
