  Welding of engineering plastics


Welding means a method to join plastic components together by partially melting them with the energy of heat or vibration. Although there is some restriction in the shape of moldings to be joined together, relatively high joining strength is obtained by this method without using adhesives. Welding can be classified into several kinds depending on the types of energy given to melt plastics.



Hot-plate welding

Plastic components are partially melted by being in contact with a thermal source or a hot plate, and then welded together before they become cold and solidify.

Vibration welding

Plastic components to be joined are partially melted with frictional energy caused by vibration and then welded.

Ultrasonic welding

Plastic components to be joined are partially melted by ultrasonic vibration and then welded.

High-frequency induction welding

Plastic components are welded by utilizing the heat caused by dielectric loss which is generated when high-frequency magnetic field is applied to magnetic materials or conductive materials.
