Compliance and Risk Management
The Polyplastics Group perceives compliance and risk management as basic management tasks and places them as the foundation of CSR activities, and makes every effort to thoroughly implement compliance and risk management in every aspect of business activities.
Compliance concepts
The concept of the Polyplastics Group's approach to compliance is defined in the first article of the Polyplastics Group Conduct Policy as follows: "We shall not only comply with all laws and regulations, but also constantly act from a high ethical perspective and with common sense."
To thoroughly implement this policy, one of the Executive Officer was appointed to be in charge of the Compliance management from March 2004, and the Corporate Ethics Helpline was introduced in January 2005 for in-house counseling and reporting. Also, the legal staffers seek a way to raise employees' compliance awareness through giving out information in a regular basis.
Basic risk management policy and system
Polyplastics actively promotes risk management by establishing the Basic Risk Management Policy to prevent risks and to carry out measures when risks surface, in the effort to ensure the continuing growth of our business.
Based on this policy, the Risk Management Committee was established to discuss and approve managerial tasks and measures that are implemented throughout the company.
The committee principally determines overall policy and directions for risk management, reexamines tasks to be addressed, and discusses and examines what improvements are necessary. Information in the risk management database is made available to all group companies in order to implement effective activities.

Establishment of the Corporate Ethics Helpline
To prevent compliance violations and be able to deal immediately with violations that occur, Polyplastics has established an in-house helpline for consultations and reporting of issues in regard to corporate ethics and compliance. In addition to the in-house helpline, we have also set up an external helpline to ensure privacy by enabling anonymous consultation.
There are separate helplines for consulting and reporting matters concerning corporate ethics and compliance and matters concerning sexual harassment and other human relationship issues that occur in-house. Also, Regulations for Corporate Ethics Consultation and Reporting were established in-house to ensure that persons reporting such matters are not penalized or treated unfairly.

Implementation of compliance education and training
A systematic program for compliance education and training is held regularly, for instance, at the time of joining the company or being promoted to middle managers. The program gives employees a chance to learn about specific laws and regulations and compliance related matters.

Information Security
The Polyplastics Group Information System Security Policy was established in order to ensure the security of the Polyplastics Group information system and enable sound and smooth functioning of all group business activities. Currently, preparations are underway to revise the policy to cover internal control, etc. We also obtain personal information on customers, etc. To ensure the proper handling of this personal information, Polyplastics established Personal Information Protection Guidelines in 2005 and is working to thoroughly implement and enforce the guidelines.
Protection and utilization of intellectual property and respect for rights of third-parties
Polyplastics regards intellectual property as an important factor in the management, and sets it as one of the trinity of management strategies, i.e., business strategy, R&D strategy, and intellectual property strategy. As a leading engineering plastics company, we make every effort to protect and effectively utilize intellectual property by acquiring trademarks and filing applications for patents, which are the company's valuable assets that cannot be imitated.
On the other hand, we also respect the rights of third parties and make every effort not to violate the patents of other companies. This is sought by means of thorough studies of relevant intellectual property rights and publicly known technologies from the early stage of development.
Compliance with export-related laws and regulations and export control
In our capacity as a company that conducts business globally, security export control efforts are an important aspect of compliance required of export control. At Polyplastics, we have set up a compliance program and are developing an export control system under the guidance of the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry. In addition, the Export Control Committee is central to education programs conducted in-house and in overseas subsidiary companies; for long years, business operations have been conducted in compliance with laws and regulations and continual improvements are being made.
As part of this effort, we prepare a list of controlled products and disclose this information in catalogs and on the Web. Also, we pinpoint problems based on the results of the internal audits conducted twice a year, and make improvements in the aim to further reinforce compliance.
