Environmental Activities by Group Companies

Polyplastics develops its business operations in the Asia-Pacific region. Environmental and safety activities are undertaken by all group companies as well. Although we still have a number of environmental issues to address, such as waste recycling, etc., this page describes current efforts being implemented by one of our group companies.

Polyplastics Taiwan Co., LTD. (Taiwan)

Corporate profile

In June 1988, Polyplastics Taiwan Co., LTD. was established as a joint venture of Hoechst Group and Chang Chun Group with the aim of manufacturing and distributing polyacetal resin. In June 1995, we bought the Hoechest Group’s stake in the company and later raised it to the current share of 75%. The company’s head office is located in Taipei, and its plant in Ta-Fa (Ta Liao Hsian, Gaoxiong).
Annual production capacity;
Polyacetal resin 25,000 tons
Various compounds 10,000 tons

Record of Release and Transfer of Chemical Substances Regulated by the PRTR

Since March 2001, we have greatly reduced the amount of the atmospheric release of gas emissions containing benzene through treatment with our existing combustion equipment. With regard to formaldehyde emissions, Polyplastics is currently gearing up for the demonstration experiment of reduction technology.

Waste Reduction and Recycling

2007 saw a rise in the amount of industrial waste as production increased. We, however, are making continuous efforts to separate and recycle waste. Currently, 74% of the industrial waste we generate is recycled. Most of the waste is recycled to either ameliorants on surplus sludge generated from wastewater treatment or heat recovery by public incinerators.

As part of our environmental efforts, we shut down all on-site incinerators in 2003.

Polyplastics Asia Pacific Sdn. Bhd. (Malaysia)

Corporate profile

In March 1997, Polyplastics Asia Pacific Sdn. Bhd. was established in Malaysia as a 100% subsidiary of our company, in order to manufacture and distribute polyacetal resin and various engineering resins. The company’s head office is located in Kuala Lumpur, and its plant in Kuantan, Pahang State.

Record of Release and Transfer of Chemical Substances Regulated by the PRTR

Regarding the release of benzene into the air, catalytic combustion of exhaust gas including benzene is already implemented, and zero emission has been achieved since the company’s inception in 2000.

Meanwhile, Polyplastics regards the reduction in formaldehyde as the group’s common issue and is gearing up for the demonstration experiment on reduction technology,

Waste Reduction and Recycling

2007 saw a moderate increase in the amount of recycled waste, which had previously been landfilled, as a result of our continuous effort to separate and recycle waste into saleable resources, in addition to the collection of used paper. At the same time, we are striving to cut waste generation through frugal practices, such as double sided copying, etc. Despite these efforts however, the net landfill waste for 2007 rose temporarily, due to the construction of new manufacturing equipment.

Meanwhile, as part of our environmental efforts, we shut down all on-site incinerators in 2001.
